Install WHMCS with Softaculous

WHMCS can be deployed through Softaculous on any PosaHosting shared hosting plan. The installer handles file placement and database creation; you supply the domain, admin credentials, and a valid license key.

Note

WHMCS requires a paid license before it will run. PosaHosting resells WHMCS licenses at discounted rates for web hosting and reseller hosting customers. Order a license here if you do not already have one.

1. Open Softaculous

  1. Log in to cPanel or DirectAdmin on your hosting account.

    PosaHosting shortcut

Jump straight to your panel from My Account

  2. Locate and open Softaculous Apps Installer (sometimes labelled simply Softaculous).

2. Find WHMCS in the catalogue

  1. Use the search bar at the top of Softaculous and type WHMCS, or scroll the application list until you spot the WHMCS entry.

  2. Click the WHMCS icon to open its installation page.

3. Complete the installation form

  1. Press Install to reveal the configuration fields.

  2. Work through the required settings:

    • Choose Protocol — WHMCS expects HTTPS. Select https:// whenever a certificate is in place. Without SSL, WHMCS will not operate correctly. Issue a free certificate first: DirectAdmin guide · cPanel guide
    • Choose Domain — The domain that will serve your billing portal.
    • In Directory — Leave blank to install at the domain root (example.com). Enter a folder name (e.g. whmcs) for a subdirectory install.
    • Admin Directory — Defaults to admin. Change this only if you want the admin area at a non-standard path.
    • Admin Username — Login name for the WHMCS administrator.
    • Admin Password — A strong password for that account.
    • Admin Email — Contact address tied to the admin login.

Database name, table prefix, and language can stay at their defaults unless you have a reason to change them.

  3. Click Install to start the process.

4. Wait for Softaculous to finish

  1. A progress bar tracks file extraction and database setup. This usually completes within a couple of minutes.

  2. When done, Softaculous displays a success message with links to the client area and the admin panel.

5. Reach the admin area

Navigate to yourdomain.com/admin, substituting your actual domain. If you renamed the admin directory in step 3, use that folder name instead of admin.

6. Harden and configure WHMCS

  1. Before going live, address these essentials:

    • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on the admin account and use a strong, unique password.
    • Open WHMCS → Utilities → Update WHMCS and confirm you are on the current release.
    • Walk through the WHMCS setup wizard to match products, gateways, and support settings to your business.

WHMCS is now installed and ready to handle billing, provisioning, and client support for your hosting operation.
