Change a Domain Name in DirectAdmin

When you rebrand or migrate a site to a new domain, DirectAdmin can rename the domain on your account without rebuilding the hosting environment from scratch. Files, databases, and email accounts tied to the old name are updated to reflect the new one.

1. Sign in to DirectAdmin

Open your panel at yourdomain.com:2222 (or your server hostname) and log in with your DirectAdmin username and password.

PosaHosting shortcut

Open the control panel in one click from My Account

2. Open Domain Setup

Go to Account Manager and click Domain Setup.

3. Rename the Domain

  1. Click Rename Domain.

  2. In Old domain, choose the current domain from the drop-down.

  3. In New Domain, type the replacement domain exactly as it should appear (no www prefix unless you intend to use it).

  4. Review both fields carefully—a typo here can break the site until corrected.

  5. Click Save to apply the change.

4. Verify the New Domain

  1. Update DNS at your registrar so the new domain resolves to your PosaHosting server, if you have not already.

  2. Visit the new domain in a browser and confirm the site, mail, and any linked services work as expected.

  3. If the previous domain had an SSL certificate, issue a new certificate for the renamed domain.

Before you rename

Renaming updates paths and mail addresses on the server, but external services—search engines, third-party integrations, and printed materials—will still reference the old domain until you update them separately.
